This is the official site of G A Goodman, a South African Photographer based in Johannesburg. He specialises in photographing the performing arts - music , theater , dance: - he collectively terms this particular work "Performance Media".
"I think one of the signature aspects of my photography is the capture of what I would call an honest reality: Trying to display the deep and lurking truths that lie hidden in us all, and indeed in everything , revealing themselves in glimpses and glimmers of life.
Often I will use harsh tones and contrasts, particularly in my black and white photographs. This is a technique I have adapted from my drawing and other art, showing the tender as well as the harsh, just as we see in nature. We are all complex: emotionally, physically - even spiritually - and we all have the capacity to be and feel many things from one time to another.
When these different facets manifest themselves visually, it fascinates me greatly: Not only does it show deep human complexity, but also frailty and beauty. I take great pleasure in trying to present a subject's true nature in this way".
